SNEK POLICY

Competition, Not Protected Giants

SNEK supports markets, which means supporting actual competition rather than government-protected incumbents.

Enforce against abuse

Government should enforce laws against fraud, collusion, anticompetitive conduct, and monopoly abuse while avoiding regulation that mainly protects existing large firms from smaller competitors.

Size is not the offense

Being successful or large is not itself a crime. Using dominance or political connections to block legitimate competition can be.

Why SNEK thinks this

SNEK prefers competition to regulation wherever competition can actually work. A giant company is not automatically a problem, but a company protected from meaningful competition by market control, exclusive arrangements, regulatory barriers, or political favoritism can stop behaving like a normal market participant.

How it would work

Antitrust enforcement should focus on conduct and market power, including exclusionary practices, anticompetitive acquisitions, collusion, predatory strategies that eliminate viable competitors, and control of essential bottlenecks. Rules that mainly protect incumbents from new entrants should be reviewed and removed. The objective is open markets, not punishing success or size by itself.

Where we’re flexible or still working it out

Large scale can produce real efficiencies, lower prices, better logistics, and innovation. SNEK does not support breaking up companies simply for being successful. Intervention should require evidence of durable market power and conduct that is reducing competition or making entry unrealistically difficult.
